Here is a hint for success at Amazon: be sure to include some big ticket items with your small ticket items. So if you are promoting books, also share a kindle. If you are promoting music, choose a great DVD player or i product for playing MP3s. Think bigger. Oprah included lots of big things in her favorite things, like a digital camera and an HDTV.

AFFIRMATION ARTICLE

Should I use affirmations in my job search?
That's an interesting question! For now, I will suspend the answer and
instead explain how affirmations work, and how you can create them for
your job search if you are so inclined.
Then, you can decide whether it would be a valuable tool on your job
search.
The premise of an affirmation is that it will slip into your unconscious
mind and provide a deeper guidance for your actions, beliefs and
behaviors.
For optimum results, you want to shift into an open and receptive state
of mind. For some people, this is best right before going to sleep, for
others, right upon waking. If you are not in an open and receptive
state, the odds of affirmations being a worthwhile tool decrease.
Then, you want to quiet the critical part of your mind. This is the part
that says "I'll never find a job," or "I've done every single
thing, nothing works" or "There are no good jobs." These critical
things that you may be repeating are damaging your actions,
communications, and results. So, suspend these thoughts. If they show
up, watch for them and let them keep going out of your mind like a wave
would crash and then be done.
Next, you want to repeat an affirmation three times. Ideally make a list
of 15 to 25 affirmations. You can hand tailor them for your job search.
What if 15 minutes every day for several weeks gave you an outcome you
were seeking? They don't cost much, and they may give you
extraordinary results for a very low risk of time and energy. I am not
attached to whether you might or might not benefit from them. Yet, if
you are drawn to the power of possibly changing unconscious beliefs or
negative thoughts, go for it!
Here are some potential job search affirmations:
1. The perfect career opportunity is available for me.
2. The career opportunity I am seeking is available and ready to be
discovered.
3. There are many, many more job openings on the planet right now than I
could ever personally accept.
4. I am well compensated for my contributions.
5. Opportunities are showing up in my life every single day.
6. Opportunities may not look or feel like I expect.
7. My mind is open to opportunities that may come from an unexpected
source.
8. I'm ready to learn whatever this job search can best teach me.
9. I am willing to see myself in the light of my accomplishments.
10. I recognize my strengths and contributions.
So, take some affirmations and tailor them for yourself. If you want to
knock it out of the ballpark, record yourself saying these affirmations
three times each, and then play the recording right before sleeping or
just upon waking. If you have a negative experience, like an unpleasant
interview, quickly go back to your affirmation process and re-iterate
your commitment to experiencing your search in a new way.

Grantmaking: Monitor one or more major funding initiatives including

Free World U, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, is building an extremely innovative K-12 Internet school. We are accredited By the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools. Our core curriculum is language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. We want to add foreign languages and the arts. We want to expand our curriculum beyond what is taught in public schools, and cover social skills, practical mental and physical health, character development, alcohol, tobacco, and drug abuse, practical business skills, and the trades, as well as a survey of occupations. We also want to add an ancillary program in child rearing skills for parents. We have curricula written for the subjects that reference carefully chosen books.

At the same time, we are producing a web-based flash movie describing the vision of our program. We will describe the problems with the current schooling system, our methods of online accelerated learning in which the student can learn seven times as fast as conventional methods, and then go on to suggest experiential models that parent cooperatives and other organizations can use to supplement factual learning. We will describe a different model of augmented child development as a basis for a more functional society. Our program integrates with existing homeschooling groups and cooperatives which allow families with two working parents to participate.

Job Description

Your job will be to reduce conventional written material and ideas of your own to simple questions and answers, primarily in the field of mathematics.
In addition, we are looking for visionary writers to contribute to the script for our flash movie. Our goal is to develop over 500,000 web-based flash cards and incorporate word derivations and mnemonics for maximum ease of learning and retention. The factoids are divided into question and answer pairs and placed on electronic flashcards. We have prekindergarten through eighth grade 95% finished and high school 35% completed. We need to write multiple-choice test questions in order to verify that the student has learned the material. It works with a complex database that remembers every student and the status of every factoid that the student either knows or doesn't know. The computer gets to know the student's strengths and weaknesses and builds a custom tailored teaching program around their particular needs.

I've used a few of these sites, like Inbox Dollars, and they work. However, you want to really watch out for signing up for any monthly fees of any kind. Also the surveys can be a total time sink with very little $ per minute results.
You may want to go and check this out, just to see if it is for you. I created Jobs for Busy Moms because I was searching myself -- and I made a BIG mistake going back to a full time, not flexible position when my daughter went off to kindergarten. Thinking "Oh! I can go back to work!" got me into trouble. I found that happiness happened when I worked from home. I left that position about five months in, giving good notice (I'm so responsible) then have worked from home ever since.

I now run my business from home, and I schedule my own meetings, on my own time. I receive regular paychecks from my company, and the office environment is very children and kitty friendly.

Once I fully committed to working from home, flexible hours, control over my day, we became a very content and synergistic family again.

In my search for work from home opportunities, I found a lot of land mines. I found so many scams! I got e-mailed gizillion ads that I didn't want in my inbox. So, on this learning curve, I was able to gather a few strategies that I am now putting to work for you.

Summer Break - Life in the Slow Lane

Before summer this year, I realized that I was not looking forward to summer. As a busy mom with two professions -- success coach, realtor -- I knew that summer would come, but I didn't look forward to it.

Finally, I realized that my kids did not need 80000 activities to make them happy. I put together a plan with some summer camp, some days off, some swimming and water park play, and lots of play dates with friends.

My work is good, but I wanted something the kids could do to take it easy. School is pretty challenging. Life in the summer should be slow and easy.

We're doing it, but some of my projects went into the "simmer" pile including this weekly update. I'll get back to posting Jobs for Busy Moms around August 26, when the kids are safely back in school.

Good day Jobs for Busy Moms readers! With my three children home for summer, it's been a HUGE challenge to update this blog! I will get back to it as soon as I am able. Here is my inspiration for you:

BELIEVE that all is possible. Believe a good job that requires skills that you wish to share is possible. I am testimony to it, myself. So stay focused on "something good can happen for me."

Stay focused and clear on the outcomes you wish to experience. I kept running back to the business world and it kept slamming me until I committed to working from home. Now that I am committed to a home office, opportunities show up that work with my life.

Stay clear that your children are job one. You may need to work, you may need cash flow, but if you stop noticing your kids, they'll be moved out before you blink. What happened!

Reach out to those around you and get help when you need it.

Think outside of every box.

If you go with an online business, don't give up before you know it won't work. Stick with it six to 10 months and give it time to flourish. Keep nurturing it. Good businesses take some time to grow, just like good kids.

How can I work from home, using the internet to make money?

I’ve got a couple of ideas, and the actual opportunities are endless. To narrow the focus of the conversation, you want to consider becoming an expert on a topic or choosing affiliate products that you like. I’m going to focus on these two pathways for now.

To become strong in affiliate marketing, you want to choose an area that interests you, and I recommend you choose products you like or feel strongly about. One of my favorite sites for affiliates is amazon.com, because they have so many products plus lots of books. Some other popular sites are Commission Junction, LinkShare, and Clickbank. All of these sites give people an opportunity to choose something they like, and make a link to that “thing” and then get some commission of the thing is purchased.

I went ahead and created an example this wee k. I like a brand new book that describes cashing in on your passion in an ethical way. I went to “GoDaddy.com” and bought the URL www.CrushItReviewed.com. It normally costs about $10 to buy the URL, but if you use the word “DiggNation” at checkout, you get a nice discount to $7 range.

Then, I went to a blog site and wrote about the book. I created a blog at www.BlogSpot.com, for free. I directed my URL to forward to the free blog. Now, when you go to www.CrushItReviewed.com, it forwards to the blog. I went to www.Amazon.com and signed up to be an affiliate. I searched for the link to Gary’s book.

Now, you can buy the book on my review site. If you do, then as an affiliate, I receive about 40 cents, I think. Then, I went to my Facebook page and told people I like the book, and sent them to my review site. In a nutshell, that is a specific example of a way to make money online. And here is a little more about the book that I like so much.

The book is called “Crush It” by Gary Vaynerchuk Gary took his love of wine, and knowledge gained by working for his family’s business selling wine and catapulted that passion into revenue. He started with a simple video camera and no real skills around making video or media production. He described what he liked about certain wines, and what he did not like about others.

His videos became so popular! People wanted to know wine the way Gary talked about wine – very down to earth and friendly. Now, he admits he was obsessed about harnessing the power of the internet. He also explains that his success did not happen over night.

I read the book, and I also tuned into some of his videos on You Tube and his own web site (www.GaryVaynerchuk.com). I watched him talk about building his business by building his own personal brand.

Gary also explains about advertising, consulting, developing a retail product, becoming an affiliate marketing expert, and more. The book is easy to read, and it’s not very long.

How to Gracefully Integrate Facebook into Your Job Search

I saw a commercial for a new movie last week, and instead of sending people to "TheNameOfTheMovie.com" the advertisement sent people to www.Facebook.com/NameofTheMovie and while I can't remember the name of the movie, I sure remember the plug for Facebook.

Earlier, maybe six months ago even, most people said to use Linked In for business and Facebook for friends. That's already old news.

Within the last week, I noticed a woman posting on Facebook asking for recommendations for a real estate agent; and I noticed a man who updates signs posting on a realtor's site for a gig to refurbish her signs and she said "yes, call me right away."

How can you most strategically position your job search on Facebook in a way that fits in with the culture and works for you?

Here are some thoughts, and if you have great ideas, please send them to my e-mail address for future columns.

Mention your job search in a positive framework when posting on your wall.Connect with others as friends first, then as you mention your job search every so often, they will naturally see it.

If possible, have a friend post for you. That has a good chemistry to it.
Like "My friend Randy is looking for commercial glass work" sounds great on Facebook, "If you have any leads, please let me know."

If you post every day on FB, then post your job search once every week or two. If you only post every week or two, then you might not want to post your job search except once a month. It shouldn't be every post.

Reply to others postings on occasion, too.

Now, create a Facebook page with highlights of your career background. After you create your Facebook identity, go to the very bottom of that page and look for the word "Advertising." Once you click on that, you can find the words "Create a Page."

Call your "resume" page something interesting like "Engineer Extraordinaire"
or "Executive Assistant and Organizational Genius" or just call it "Joe Smith's Career Highlights" with your own name.

Decide carefully how you want to outline your content. You may want to list key accomplishments and then link to a web site with your actual resume on it.

You can get a free blog web site by going to Wordpress.org or Blogspot.com.
You can create a long resume there. Facebook pages, in my recommendation, should be a tease or an introduction with highlights and a clear picture of what you are seeking. Then send people to a more-in depth place for your entire background, or make it easy for them to link to your entire background from the page.

Make it easy to find you with a clear phone number and e-mail address, unless you fear spam or calls from strangers. I used to be fearful of posting my phone number everywhere until I became a real estate agent, then I had to make my number readily available and people typically do not abuse that. Who wants to call people unless they have an actual reason to call?

However, if you are overly worried, you can obtain a cell phone that is paid up front with a dedicated "job search" phone number; and you can obtain an alternate e-mail for your job search that you can zap later.

The more you play with interacting on Facebook, the more responsiveness it will bring you. I'm not a great example, I post every few days or once a week. I just don't seem to be able to take the time. But I do try to check out friend's comments and wish everyone happy birthday when it's appropriate. I am on a learning curve on Facebook, yet I'm clear that it seems to be getting bigger every week.

Beware! Five Work from Home Pitfalls to Avoid!

The path to maintaining a lucrative job from home experience is paved with millions of distracting opportunities that can take you off course and waste your time and energy. How do you veer clear of pitfalls? Here are some of my suggestions:

1. Focus on your annual and quarterly income requirements. This will help you know if an opportunity will work for you. If you don't do this, the pitfall is you might accept $2 for half an hour when you've been making $60 an hour consulting. As long as you know where you're going, you can better figure out if an opportunity is the right fit.

2. Get clear on how much time you can commit to your business efforts. Take into account a completely different level of productivity than your life before kids. For a parent of school-age children, for instance, there will likely be drops in work schedules in summer and December. For parents of young children, count about a week every month for days when unexpected stuff just happens. This may show up as one or two days per week or a week here and there. A child gets sick, your spouse can't help on a Saturday as planned, that kind of thing.

3.Get to know how much risk you are willing to take. Are you willing to be entrepreneurial? Start a whole new business or a line of them? Play with adwords and adsense on google to generate income streams? Or would you feel safer with data entry? Without judgment, stop for a moment and just consider what is right for you. I like some risk with measurable upside and I like commission-based work. Some people feel SO much better with hourly work, reliable projects, and assignments that are quite tangible and pay a specific amount.

4. Make sure you're going to like what you're doing. Identify your skillset. What do you want to contribute? If you forget about this and just "do something" you may dislike what you took on. I believe we have a natural tuning fork inside of us that resonates when things feel good, and tells us (if we listen) when things feel bad or off.

5. Avoid opportunities to pay to be given opportunities. There are exceptions, but in general, you can find data entry jobs and work from home jobs if you scroll and screen and look carefully. The exception would be paying for new tools to help you get things done, like cool new phones that do everything but stand on their toes and dance (and allow you to work from wherever you are whenever you want); or information products that help you learn something valuable.

Example: .35/audio min = $21.00/audio hr. If you had 60 min of audio, you would receive $21 if it took you two hours to do or if it took you five hrs to do.

Surveys slow drip money. If you have a newborn or you have just 15 minutes here and there, and you process information pretty quickly, or if you play computer games anyhow and would like to gain $3 to $10 during those moments instead, then you may want to pursue surveys and opinion research. As a petroleum geologist with a flexible telecommuting work arrangement, I successfully balanced a well-paying career with caring for a child who has special needs. Then a new manager forced me to make a decision: care for my toddler daughter at home or work in the office. I chose my daughter.

Craigs Pal offers a free download. If you download the software, you can search Craigslist online nationally for tele-commute opportunities with key words. You can also use "-" keywords. So, let's say you want to research freelance writing gigs nationally where you can tele-commute, but you want to excluded the term "technical," you can. Or you can research only writing about a certain topic, in all Craigslists nationwide. Functionally, it is slightly rigid in format and you have to upgrade for an e-mail alert. There was one position listed this time for a 30-hour-per-week managing editor at $50/hour, for instance. I've never joined, but I have looked at the openings from time to time.

I was just offered a commission-only job. What are the pros and cons? Should I consider it?

Whenever a job offer happens, I recommend you stop and be thankful. Even if it is not the “right” job, it is still “a” job and someone is showing faith in you. So, stop for a moment when you receive a hint or a nibble or a suggestion or a lead or a contact, and feel gratitude. It’s a much better feeling than fear, and many of us go into fear around job searching in this market. Unfortunately, fear is repelling. So, grab a hold of it and let the fear go, and consider all of the options in front of you.

Here are some pros and cons to consider when looking into commission-based compensation:

Are you a squirrel or a spender? Do you hide away your “nuts” for rainy days, or do you spend as fast as you receive? Commission-based opportunities will serve those who know how to save better than those who do not.

Is the work you will be doing preparing you for your future? Is it in alignment with your greater goals and objectives? Pretend it is 2014. Think about where you want to be in 2014, in your career. Will this position give you something on your resume that serves your “vision” for your own best future? On a scale of 1 to 10, grade where this job lands on the scale of future preparedness and alignment.

Do you like the people? A lot of other qualities can be overlooked if you are joining an excellent group of people. Surrounding yourself with good people will give you an opportunity to thrive.

Do you need a paycheck every other week that is the same amount so you can sleep easily? If the answer is yes, I recommend strongly against a commission-only position.

Is the freedom of the position worth the variability in compensation? For me, I chose a commission-based position in 2004 when my children were babies. I wanted the flexibility that selling real estate could provide, plus the earning potential. It was a major shift, from writing and philanthropy (my previous professions). I greatly appreciate the freedom the position gives me.

Are you a good negotiator? With most commission-based opportunities, there is a commission split. For instance, I heard about a jewelry company recently that provides 20 percent commission on the spot for sales associates. So, sales associates host a party, then sell lovely jewelry, then receive 20 percent of the total sales. If you are being offered a commission split (most real estate companies still have these also) be ready to negotiate on your own behalf.

Is the formula for your payment clear and easy to understand? When you are told “you are likely to earn $70,000 per year” find out how many associates earn at different levels. If 80 percent of associates earn $20,000 per year and 1 percent of associates earn $150,000 per year, contemplate where you might land. For me, I would probably land in the top 25 percent. Not the top 1 percent. Not to be my own worst critic, but I have a balanced life with kids, a horse, a husband, friends, and did I say kids?

If you can’t stand the idea of commission-based work, don’t take it on. You will put a lot of energy into something that may not have much chance of success. If you are between positions and want “SOMETHING” or “ANYTHING” to tide you over, consider carefully the potential for income. Think of your own time as valuable and worthwhile. Some sales positions are salaried with bonus. That may be more up your alley if you want the best of both worlds.

On the other side, you may have unlimited potential and if your lifestyle and support system can work, you may be able to make more money than any salaried position if you go for a commission-only environment.

You don't have to live in Santa Cruz County but that is the territory where most of the homes will be.

How To Make Money on the Internet As An Affiliate

To create an online income stream as fast as possible, then promoting affiliate products is one great way to get started. As an affiliate, you don't have to find, ship, purchase or send stock to customers. You recommend products and receive commissions.

All you have to do is attract traffic to your website, then send that traffic to the merchant's site. When your traffic buys their product, money goes into your bank account.

So what kind of income can you expect from your commission checks? Good merchants offer commissions of 20% to 50% of the profits on each unit sold.

The most critical component comes from finding a niche market.

I personally have five pets (two dogs, two cats and a very nice horse) and I can relate to how hard it is to find time to train them and keep all of our pet stuff calm and happy in the midst of raising kids.

Why I Created Jobs for Busy Moms

Working at home is inspiring and frustrating. Finding good jobs from home takes energy and the ability to discern fact from fiction, truth from scams. I'm sharing what I have learned by posting jobs every Wednesday designed and tailored for moms at home. Some will be based in Northern California, but some may be accomplished from anywhere on the planet. It's a global market for business opportunities when the internet is your playground.

I'm a mom of three beautiful children, ages 6, 7 and 8. Before I had children, I was a powerful business woman. I was the program director of a fabulous philanthropic foundation. I assisted in the delivery of more than 550 scholarships to young people on a focused career path over several years in that position.

When my children were ages 1, 2 and 3, I chose to work from home. I can't say I've never looked back and I am still learning best practices.

We are seeking a writer to develop regular content for a new Galileo Learning blog, and help manage our social media efforts on Facebook and Twitter. The ideal candidate will have:

Leaders Needed Nationwide to Gather information and Sell Ads for "Sign Up for Camp" - submitted by Jenny Silva

I am starting a business called Sign Up For Camp, and I am currently looking for moms in major metropolitan areas to be area leaders. Sign Up For Camp is a new website that makes it easier to plan your children's summer and co-ordinate with friends. At Sign Up For Camp, you can search camps by session dates, location, child's age and then save interesting camps to a calendar and share your camp plans with friends. The site is launching in December 2009.

There are two focuses of the area leaders. The hours are extremely flexible, and the work can be done from home. I would need moms willing to devote substantial hours however. I'd like at least a 20 hour a week commitment from moms doing business development. The market planning could be a lesser commitment. Moms can focus on request either one or both of the areas:

-Business development. Contact local camps and upgrade them from their free listing to a paid listing. We have marketing materials available for moms.
This position will be on a commission basis, but there will be the ability to make 4-5,000 over a 2 month period.

-Market planning. Develop a local area marketing plan. Put together a list and contacts for all moms groups, local parenting publications, or very local publications that might cover mom issues. List all schools and districts and learn how to get in school envelopes or in school newsletters.
Find mom contacts at local private schools who may be willing to share information with other moms. Find local stapling services. Come up with other creative ideas to reach moms in the local community. This will be paid on an hourly basis - $20-$25/hour.

Mystery Shopping
Once you are trained as a mystery shopper, you can vie for higher paying assignments pretty easily. Higher paying assignments occur through these portals but are also listed on Craigslist.

I have heard that there are mystery shopping scams, and the whole thing does feel like spying because you go into a shop and then write down how people are behaving. So it's not for everyone. The initial assignments pay only $8 to $11 per shop, but can be at places like Staples, Office Depot, Any Mountain, Big Five. If you have to go and get ink anyhow, you can couple a trip to get ink with a mystery shop and offset the cost of ink or paper, etc. with your shopping. Then you can mystery shop for $50/shop or $300/for six shops in a week.

These are valid opportunities. If you can book 7 or 8 shops back-to-back you can do the most efficient capitalization of this work. If your car gets bad gas mileage, this is probably not a good option.
